In chemical and petrochemical industry, oil and gas extraction facilities, mining industry, and many other industries combustible materials, gases, and vapors are leaked during production, processing, transportation, and storage. There is a risk of explosion if combustible dusts (e.g. flour) are formed during manufacturing processes. These combustible materials mix with oxygen in the air to form an explosive mixture. In this atmosphere, any source of ignition (flame, electrical, mechanical spark, etc.) leads to explosion, which could result in serious personal and property loss.
This means that electrical equipment must be treated as a potential source of ignition. Therefore all electric equipment of a crane has to be explosion-proof.
